Sister Margaret Regina Hennessy, R.C.D.

Sister Margaret Regina Hennessy, R.C.D., who served in several capacities throughout the archdiocese and beyond, died Jan. 1 in Nyack Hospital. She was 98.

She was a catechist, home visitor and Eucharistic minister to the sick and homebound. She served her religious community as local superior, treasurer and in other roles.

She served at the Our Lady of Good Counsel parish in Manhattan, 1987-1998, St. Augustine’s School, the Bronx, 1970-1985; Marydell Camp and Convent, 1939-1940; Madonna House, Manhattan, 1938-1939; and Ave Maria House, the Bronx, 1936-1937 and 1944-1947. She also served in Florida and South Carolina.

Born in New York City, she entered the Sisters of Our Lady of Christian Doctrine in 1933 and professed final vows in 1940. She was previously known as Sister Mary Raphael.

A Funeral Mass was offered Jan. 4 at Marydell Convent. Burial was in Ascension Cemetery, Airmont.
