Sister Marian Mercedes Bishop, S.C., a teacher in the archdiocese for 16 years, died April 10 at Kittay House in the Bronx. She was 82.

Sister Marian taught at St. John the Evangelist School, White Plains, 1973-1974; St. Anthony, Yonkers 1972-1973; St. Barnabas, the Bronx, 1967-1971; Immaculate Conception, Staten Island, 1965-1967; Resurrection, Rye, 1960-1965; Immaculate Conception, Manhattan, 1959-1960; and Blessed Sacrament, Staten Island, 1957-1959.

Sister Marian served as school secretary and accountant at Immaculate Conception, Manhattan, 2008; office coordinator for the Franciscan Friars, Manhattan, 1995-2008; administrative assistant of St. Paul School, Manhattan, 1985-1993; assistant director of a day care center, Yonkers, 1983-1985; circulation director and fulfillment director of America Press, Yonkers, 1974-1983; and cook and housekeeper at St. Anthony’s rectory, Yonkers, 1971-1972. She also served in New Jersey.

Born in White Plains, she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1954 and professed final vows in 1963.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in math from the College of Mount St. Vincent, and a master’s in elementary education from Fordham University.

A Funeral Mass was offered April 14 in Mount St. Vincent Convent Assembly Room, the Bronx. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Yonkers.
