Sister Marie Antoinette Paxhia, O.P.

Sister Marie Antoinette Paxhia, O.P., who taught at two Manhattan schools, died Oct. 18 at Dominican Convent in Sparkill. She was 96. She taught at St. Catherine of Siena, 1950-1952, and St. Rose of Lima, 1935-1936, and in the Archdiocese of St. Louis and the dioceses of San Diego and Phoenix. After retiring from teaching she served at the convent in Sparkill from 1990 until she moved to its infirmary in 1993. Born in St. Louis, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1934 and professed final vows in 1940. She held a bachelor's degree in economics from Fontbonne College and a master's in education and counseling from St. Louis University. A Funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 21 at Dominican Convent, with burial at St. Agnes Cemetery in Sparkill.
