Sister Marie Barbara Petrone, F.S.P.

Sister Marie Barbara Petrone, F.S.P., , who taught in parish schools in the archdiocese, died Dec. 28 at Sans Souci Nursing Home in Yonkers. She was 97. She taught at St. Columbanus in Cortlandt Manor, 1972-1982 and 1958-1959; Our Lady of Loretto, Cold Spring, 1971-1972 and 1937-1939; St. Patrick's, Verplanck, 1966-1971; Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, Manhattan, 1963-1966; St. Teresa's, Sleepy Hollow, 1962-1963; Immaculate Conception, Irvington-on-Hudson, 1959-1962; St. Matthew's, Hastings-on-Hudson, 1957-1958; Sacred Heart, Highland Falls, 1950-1957; St. Veronica's, Manhattan, 1947-1949; Holy Name of Mary, Croton-on-Hudson, 1935-1937; and in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Born in Ossining, she entered the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart in Peekskill in 1931 and professed final vows in 1938. (The Franciscan Sisters of Peace later were formed from that congregation.) She held a bachelor's degree in history from Ladycliff College in Highland Falls. After retiring in 1982, she resided at the motherhouse in Peekskill until 1986, then at Sacred Heart parish in Yonkers until 1998, when she entered the nursing home. A Funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 30 at Marian Woods Convent in Hartsdale, with burial at St. Mary's Cemetery in Yonkers.
