Sister Marie Christine Rongione, F.S.P.

Sister Marie Christine Rongione, F.S.P., who served as an elementary school teacher in the archdiocese, died Dec. 8. She was 84.

She taught at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School, Manhattan, 1946-1947; Immaculate Conception, Irvington, 1949-1952; St. Joseph’s School, Peekskill, 1953-1955; St. Veronica’s School, Manhattan, 1955-1956; and Our Lady of Loretto School, Cold Spring, 1956-1957. She also taught at Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Home, the Bronx, 1952-1953; and at Ladycliff Academy, Mohegan Lake, 1968-1970.

Sister Christine was the founder and administrator of Cascia Career Center, a high school for girls in Pennsylvania, 1976-1990.

Born in Philadelphia, she entered the Franciscan Sisters of Peace in 1943 and professed final vows in 1951. She held a bachelor’s degree from Ladycliff College and a master’s from Villanova University.

A Funeral Mass was offered Dec. 12 at Marian Woods in Hartsdale, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Yonkers.
