Sister Marie Magdalena Angerame, O.S.F.

Sister Marie Magdalena Angerame, O.S.F., who was twice a principal in the archdiocese, died Feb. 21 at the Wartburg Adult Care Community in Mount Vernon. She was 94.

She was principal of Holy Name of Jesus School in New Rochelle, 1966-1976, and Immaculate Conception School in Tuckahoe, 1976-1980.

She was librarian at Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, 1981-1995.

She taught at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in Poughkeepsie, St. Aloysius at Mount Loretto on Staten Island, and St. Joseph’s in New Rochelle.

She was superior of Holy Name Convent, New Rochelle, for six years beginning in 1966. She was moderator of Immaculate Conception Convent, Tuckahoe, 1996-1999, and St. Agnes Hospital Convent, 1990.

In 1996, she began a 10-year ministry as archivist for the unpublished documents of Terence Cardinal Cooke and actively promoted the cause for sainthood for Cardinal Cooke. She received the Cardinal Cooke Medal in 2005.

She served on the Human Rights Commission in New Rochelle.

Born in Queens, she entered the Sisters of St. Francis in 1939 and professed final vows in 1944.

She held a bachelor’s degree from Manhattan College and a master’s from St. John’s University.

A Funeral Mass was offered Feb. 25 at Immaculate Conception Church in Tuckahoe. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Queens.
