Sister Marie Patrice Murphy, O.S.F.

Sister Marie Patrice Murphy, O.S.F., who was an elementary and high school teacher, died Nov. 29 at the Wartburg Adult Care Community in Mount Vernon. She was 95.

Sister Marie Patrice taught at St. Eugene’s School, Yonkers, 1979-1984; Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Pelham Manor, 1963-1968; St. Joseph, New Rochelle, 1956-1963; Immaculate Conception, Tuckahoe, 1950-1956; and St. Catherine’s, Pelham, 1944-1950.

She taught at Resurrection High School, Rye, 1976-1979, and St. Clare Academy High School, Hastings-on-Hudson, 1970-1976.

She also taught in Florida.

She was spiritual associate of the Immaculate Queen Secular Franciscan Fraternity in Yonkers.

Born in New York City, she entered the Sisters of St. Francis in 1942 and professed final vows in 1947. She held a bachelor’s degree in English from Manhattan College and a master’s in English from Iona College.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Gavin. Her sister, Sister Mary Francis Murphy, O.S.F., and two brothers, Patrick and Timothy, predeceased her.

A Funeral Mass was offered Dec. 5 in the chapel at Wartburg. Burial followed in Resurrection Cemetery on Staten Island.
