Sister Marita Rose O’Brien, S.C., who worked in health care as a nurse and educator, died Aug. 23 at Mary the Queen Convent in Yonkers. She was 82.

Formerly known as Sister Theresa Eileen, she did community health education for St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan, 1980-2000. She did nursing at the hospital, 1971-1980, when she was also a clinical specialist, and 1950-1964.

She was a medical coordinator at New York Foundling Hospital, Manhattan, 1967-1968, and home care coordinator and an administrative assistant at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Yonkers, 1964-1967.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1948 and professed final vows in 1953.

She received her nursing degree at St. Vincent School of Nursing, a bachelor’s degree in nursing from St. John’s University and a master’s degree in nursing from The Catholic University of America.

She is survived by a sister, Margaret Siegrist.

A Funeral Mass was offered Aug. 28 at Mary the Queen Convent, with burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Yonkers.
