Sister Mary Berchmans Coyle, R.D.C.

Sister Mary Berchmans Coyle, R.D.C., a longtime college administrator in White Plains, died Sept. 18 at St. Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry. She was 87. She began her higher education career in 1941 as a faculty member of Good Counsel College and the College of White Plains. In 1976 she was named associate dean of Pace University's School of Continuing Education in White Plains, serving until 1985, when she was named by Pace as director of the Division of General Studies in Westchester. She retired in 1991. She was involved in many service programs in the White Plains area, including those of Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish. She also worked for many years with the Organization of Separated, Divorced and Remarried Catholics. Born in Newark, she entered the Sisters of the Divine Compassion in 1939 and professed final vows in 1947. She held a bachelor's degree from Good Counsel College, a master's from Teachers College of Columbia University and a doctorate from St. John's University. Surviving are two sisters, Colleen Coyle McDonald and Judith Coyle, and a brother, Francis Coyle. A Funeral Mass was offered Sept. 21 in the Chapel of the Divine Compassion in White Plains, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, White Plains.
