Sister Mary Blish, R.S.C.J., an English professor at Manhattanville College in Purchase who also served as president of Maryville College in Cincinnati, died June 21 at Teresian House in Albany. She was 89.

Sister Mary served at Manhattanville, 1964-1977. She was president of Maryville College for four years and also taught there. She was a visiting English professor at Sacred Heart University in Tokyo for 14 years.

She also taught in Albany, St. Louis and Louisiana.

Born in Chicago, she entered the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1950 and professed final vows in 1959.

She received a bachelor’s degree from Maryville College of the Sacred Heart in St. Louis, a master’s from Manhattanville and a doctorate from St. Louis University.

A Funeral Mass was offered June 28 in Infant of Prague Chapel at Teresian House. Burial followed at Kenwood Cemetery in Albany.
