Sister Mary Caplice, C.N.D.

Sister Mary Caplice, C.N.D., who served as assistant principal at St. Jean Baptiste High School in Manhattan for seven years, died July 4 at Andrus on Hudson in Hastings-on-Hudson. She was 82.

Sister Mary, a graduate of St. Jean Baptiste, was assistant principal, 2009-2016, and taught at Notre Dame Academy, Staten Island, 1964-1968. She also served in Florida and as province leader of the U.S. Province of the Congregation of Notre Dame.

Born in Manhattan, Sister Mary entered the Congregation of Notre Dame in 1953 and professed final vows in 1961. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Fairfield University in Connecticut, and a master’s from Hunter College in Manhattan.

Her brother, Brother Stephen Caplice, F.S.C., survives her.

A Funeral Mass was offered July 7 at St. Jean Baptiste Church, Manhattan. Burial was July 9 in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Danbury, Conn.
