Sister Mary Catherine Schuit, O.S.F., who taught for 13 years at St. Mary of the Assumption School on Staten Island, died May 7 at Sacred Heart Convent in Milwaukee, Wis. She was 102.
She taught at the Staten Island school from 1948 to 1961.
She also taught in Illinois, Wisconsin and Nevada.
She continued to work and volunteer until 2007, and then served in a ministry of prayer and presence at Sacred Heart Convent.
Born in Chicago, she entered the School Sisters of St. Francis in 1928 and professed final vows in 1936. She was formerly known as Sister Thecla.
A Funeral Mass was offered May 14 at St. Joseph’s Convent in Milwaukee. Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
