Sister Mary Elise O'Hare, S.S.N.D.

Sister Mary Elise O'Hare, S.S.N.D., who grew up in Manhattan, died Oct. 9 at Lourdes Health Care Center at Villa Notre Dame in Wilton, Conn. She was 98.

A teacher and principal for more than 70 years, she served in various schools in the northeast, with St. Saviour's in Brooklyn one of her first assignments. She earned a bachelor's degree at Fordham University and a master's at Fairfield University.

She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1927, after having been taught by them in her home parish of St. Joseph of the Holy Family in Harlem. She professed final vows in 1937.

A Funeral Mass was offered Oct. 14 at Villa Notre Dame.
