Sister Mary Gregory West, P.B.V.M.

Sister Mary Gregory West, P.B.V.M., who served as regional superintendent of schools in Westchester County for five years, died March 25 at Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh. She was 95.

Sister Mary was regional superintendent, 1967-1972. She taught at St. Frances of Rome, the Bronx, 1977-1986; St. Mary’s, Kingston, 1948-1950; and St. John’s, Goshen, 1945-1948, where she also was principal, 1963-1965 and 1972-1977.

She also served as director of religious education of St. Frances of Rome, 1986-2010. She served her religious congregation, the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary of New Windsor, as vice president, 1971-1975, and supervisor of schools, 1966-1971.

She served 13 years in Houma, La.

Born in Ossining, she entered the Presentation Sisters in 1942 and made final vows in 1948. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Manhattan College, and a master’s and doctorate from Fordham University’s School of Education.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated March 28 at Mount St. Joseph Chapel in New Windsor. Burial followed in Mount St. Joseph Cemetery.
