Sister Mary Jane Fitzgibbon, S.C.

Sister Mary Jane Fitzgibbon, S.C., who taught in the archdiocese for 22 years and later served as a public relations director for 27 years, died April 3 at Cabrini of Westchester in Dobbs Ferry. She was 85.

Sister Mary Jane was an administrator at Mount St. Vincent Convent, the Bronx, 2004-2008. She was director of public relations at Abbott House, Irvington, 1990-2004, and New York Foundling Hospital, Manhattan, 1976-1989.

She taught at St. Raymond Academy, the Bronx, 1970-1976; St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School, Staten Island, 1966-1970; Cardinal Spellman High School, the Bronx, 1962-1966; Elizabeth Seton Academy, Yonkers, 1959-1962; and Our Lady of Angels School, the Bronx, 1954-1959.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1951 and professed final vows in 1959. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from the College of Mount St. Vincent, the Bronx, and a master’s in Spanish from Fordham University, the Bronx.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated April 8 in the Mount St. Vincent Convent Assembly Room, the Bronx. Burial of her cremated remains was to take place at a later date.
