Sister Mary Natalie Ruane, R.S.M.

Sister Mary Natalie Ruane, R.S.M., a teacher at Aquinas High School in the Bronx for 32 years, died May 17 at McAuley Hall in Watchung, N.J. She was 91.

Sister Mary Natalie taught at Aquinas, 1970-2002. She taught at St. Simon Stock High School, the Bronx, 1963-1970; St. Simon Stock Elementary, the Bronx, 1962-1963; Sacred Heart, Mount Vernon, 1961-1962; St. Michael, Staten Island, 1958-1961; Good Shepherd, Manhattan, 1953-1955; and Transfiguration, Tarrytown, 1951 and 1953. She also served in Saranac Lake and Rouses Point.

Born in the Bronx, she entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1948 and professed final vows in 1954. She earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Hunter College, Manhattan, and master’s degrees in education and American history, both from Fordham University, the Bronx.

Her sister, Sister Maura Ruane, R.S.M., predeceased her in 2007.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated May 21 in Marian Woods Chapel, Hartsdale. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Queens.
