Sister Mary Rosilda Tabacco, S.C.

Sister Mary Rosilda Tabacco, S.C., a teacher and principal in the archdiocese, died Jan. 6 at Mary the Queen Convent in Yonkers. She was 99.

She was principal of St. Margaret of Cortona School, 1962-1968, and a teacher at Visitation, 1954-1956, both in the Bronx. She taught in Manhattan at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 1968-1974, Holy Trinity, 1947-1954, and St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral, 1930-1947, and on Staten Island at Blessed Sacrament, 1956-1962.

She served in the library at St. Ignatius of Loyola School in Manhattan, 1974-1981.

Born in Yonkers, she entered the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1929 and professed final vows in 1934. She held a bachelor’s degree in history from the College of Mount St. Vincent.

A Funeral Mass was offered Jan. 10 at Mary the Queen Convent, with burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Yonkers.
