Sister Maura Ruane, R.S.M.

Sister Maura Ruane, R.S.M., who taught for many years at schools in the Bronx, died March 3. Sister Maura taught at Sacred Heart, 1956-1958, 1959-1960 and 1962-1964; St. Francis Xavier, 1960-1961; and St. Simon Stock, 1964-1972. She also was a teacher and librarian in the Bronx at St. Pius High School, 1973-1984, and St. Margaret Mary School, 1984-2004. She also served at Commander Shea School in Manhattan, 1955-1956 and 1958-1959; and at St. Michael's Home on Staten Island, 1949-1951. Born in Manhattan, she entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1947 and professed final vows in 1952. She held bachelor's and master's degrees from Fordham University in the Bronx. She is survived by a sister, Sister Mary Natalie, R.S.M., and a brother, John. A Funeral Mass was offered March 7 at the Marian Woods Chapel in Hartsdale, with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Queens.
