Sister Michael Damien O’Connor, M.M., who was a missioner to the Philippines and to Bangladesh, died Sept. 6 at Maryknoll Sisters Residential Care Unit. She was 98.

Her first overseas assignment was to the Philippines in 1950 where she served as a teacher and catechist in Lucena. In 1960 she became assistant bursar of Maryknoll College and assisted with the construction of the novitiate in Quezon City.

In 1966 she returned to Maryknoll Center in Ossining, where she served in the treasury office for 12 years. She studied to become a certified practical nurse and then worked at the Maryknoll Nursing Home until 1986.

She was assigned to Bangladesh in 1986 and did home visiting and natural family planning work in Dhaka until her retirement in 1994, when she returned to Maryknoll.

Born in Wellesley, Mass., she entered the Maryknoll Sisters in 1946 and professed final vows in 1952.

She is survived by two sisters, Barbara Martin and Marie Hatch, and a brother, Thomas O’Connor.

A Funeral Mass was offered Sept. 10 at Maryknoll Sisters Chapel. Burial was in the sisters’ cemetery.
