Sister Monica McGloin, O.P., a member of the Dominican Sisters of Hope who held congregational leadership positions and served many years as a nurse, died Oct. 2 in Cincinnati. She was 78.

Sister Monica served on the Leadership Team of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, 2003-2009, and she was president of the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor in Ossining, 1984-1992. In 1983-1984, she was a co-founder of Newburgh Ministry.

Sister Monica served as a nurse with the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor Agency in Columbus, Ohio, and Cincinnati. She also was a nurse with Cincinnati Area Senior Services, and a grant writer with the Community Land Co-op of Cincinnati.

In later years and in retirement, she was involved in peace and justice programs in the Bronx and Cincinnati.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor in 1964 and professed final vows in 1972. She held a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Ohio State University.

Her body has been donated to scientific research. A Memorial Mass was offered Oct. 19 at St. Joseph Church in Cincinnati. A second Memorial Mass will be offered Sunday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. at Mariandale in Ossining.
