Sister Pauline M. Sticka, M.M., a missioner to Taiwan who taught religious education and provided marriage counseling, died Dec. 7 at Maryknoll Sisters Center in Ossining. She was 94.
Her service in Taiwan included pastoral care, home visiting and community ministry, 1997-2008. Also in Taiwan, from 1973 to 1994, she did religious education, pastoral work and marriage counseling, and worked to build basic Christian communities.
Sister Pauline also served in Taiwan from the mid-1950s to the late 1960s, primarily in parish ministry.
In 1947, she was assigned to Kaying, China, to do catechetical work. In 1950, the Communists placed her under house arrest for a year before she was expelled from China and returned to the United States.
She also served in the development department at Maryknoll Sisters Center and did pastoral ministry in Chicago’s Chinatown.
Born in Dickinson, N.D., she entered the Maryknoll Sisters in 1942 and made final vows in 1948. She was formerly known as Sister M. Paul Therese. She held a bachelor’s degree from Mary Rogers College at Maryknoll.
A Funeral Mass was offered Dec. 14 at Annunciation Chapel at Maryknoll Sisters Center. Burial was in the sisters’ cemetery.
