Sister Regina Avard, P.B.V.M.

Sister Regina Avard, P.B.V.M., who served as an educator for many years at schools in the archdiocese, died Nov. 9 at Mount St. Joseph Convent in New Windsor. She was 99.

She taught at Our Lady of Solace School, St. Frances of Rome and Holy Rosary, all in the Bronx; Mount St. Joseph Academy, New Windsor; and St. Michael Elementary School, Manhattan.

Sister Regina was principal at St. Andrew’s School in Clifton, N.J., 1970-1976, and she served there as a teacher, 1952-1959.

Born in Manhattan, she entered the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary of New Windsor in 1939 and professed final vows in 1945. She held a bachelor’s degree and a master’s, both in education, from Manhattan College.

She is survived by a niece, Mary Beth Nagurney.

A Funeral Mass was offered Nov. 13 at Mount St. Joseph Chapel, New Windsor. Burial was at Mount St. Joseph Cemetery, New Windsor.
