Sister Rose Dominic Trapasso, M.M.

Sister Rose Dominic Trapasso, M.M., a missioner to South America for more than half a century, died July 14 at Clinica Stella Maris Medical Center in Lima, Peru. She was 94.

Sister Rose Dominic did social work and outreach work in South America, mostly in Peru and Bolivia, 1953-2010. She co-founded centers that focused on women’s rights, helped women who had been involved in prostitution and educated the public about the importance of battling human trafficking.

Born in Niagara Falls, she entered the Maryknoll Sisters in 1948 and made final vows in 1954. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from New York State College for Teachers in Albany, and a master’s in social work from the University of Buffalo.

She is survived by her sister, Joan Ann. A Funeral Mass was offered July 15 at the Religious of the Sacred Heart Chapel in Lima. Burial was in Lima.
