Sister Sean William O’Brien, O. Carm., who was executive director of Mary Manning Walsh Home in Manhattan, died July 22 in the Dawn Greene Hospice unit there. She was 80.

She had served as executive director of ArchCare at Mary Manning Walsh Home since 2012 and before that as administrator from 1997, as coordinator of direct care services, 1986-1992, and superior, 1986-1989. She also served at St. Patrick’s Home in the Bronx, 1968-1971.

She was superior/administrator of St. Joseph Nursing Home in Utica and director of nursing at Madonna Residence in Brooklyn. She also served in Queens, Connecticut and Philadelphia.

Born in New York City, she volunteered at an early age at Mary Manning Walsh Home. She graduated from Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing, and worked as a registered nurse at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan for seven years.

She entered the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm in 1964 and professed final vows in 1972.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated July 25 in Holy Family Chapel of Mary Manning Walsh Home. Burial was at Queen of Carmel Cemetery at St. Teresa’s Motherhouse in Germantown.
