Sister Sheila O’Friel, D.C.

Sister Sheila O’Friel, D.C., who was executive director of the Kennedy Child Study Center in Manhattan and the Bronx for six years, died April 28 at Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg, Md. She was 89.

Sister Sheila served at Kennedy Child Study Center as executive director, 1986-1992, and teacher, 1979-1981. She taught at Astor Home for Children, Rhinebeck, 1976-1979.

She also served in Queens, Virginia, Massachusetts, Maryland and California.

Born in Altoona, Pa., she entered the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul in 1953 and took her vows in 1959.

She earned a master’s degree in home economics from Cornell University, Ithaca.

Her brother Mark O’Friel survives her.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated May 4 in the Basilica of the National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Emmitsburg. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Emmitsburg.
