Sister Thérèse Maria Dunne, S.C., who served 44 years in education—20 years in the classroom and 24 years in educational support services—died Oct. 5 at Kittay Senior Apartments, the Bronx. She was 85.

She was an administrative assistant at Archbishop Stepinac High School, White Plains, 1998-2000, and educational coordinator for the Archdiocese of New York Data Systems Center in Yonkers, 1976-1998.

She taught at St. Gabriel High School, New Rochelle, 1964-1976; Blessed Sacrament School, Staten Island, 1959-1962; Holy Name, Manhattan, 1956-1959, and St. Peter, Haverstraw, 1956. She also taught in Pennsylvania.

She served as secretary in the Provincial House of the Salesian Fathers in New Rochelle, 2000-2002.

After her retirement in 2002, she volunteered at Sound Shore Hospital, New Rochelle, until she moved to Mary the Queen Convent in Yonkers in 2005. She moved to Kittay Senior Apartments in 2014.

Born in Manhattan, she attended Visitation School, the Bronx, Cathedral High School, Manhattan and Hunter College before entering the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1953. She made final vows in 1961.

She earned a master’s degree in mathematics at Villanova University and a bachelor’s in mathematics at the College of Mount St. Vincent.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 18 at Mount St. Vincent Convent Chapel, the Bronx. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery in Yonkers.
