Six Priests of the Archdiocese Retire

Six priests of the archdiocese who are turning 75 this year retired July 1, the Cardinal’s Office has announced.

The normal retirement age for priests of the archdiocese is 75.

The priests who retired are Father William Brogan, parochial vicar, St. Raymond parish, the Bronx; Msgr. Michael Crimmins, parochial vicar, Holy Name of Jesus-St. Gregory the Great, Manhattan; Father Joseph Kelly, spiritual director, Cathedral Seminary House of Formation, Douglaston, Queens; Father John Kostek, administrator, St. John Neumann parish, Staten Island; Father Peter Meehan, parochial vicar, Our Saviour-St. Stephen and Our Lady of the Scapular and the Chapel of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Manhattan; and Father Louis Van Thanh, parochial vicar, Holy Innocents, Manhattan.

Father William Brogan had served as parochial vicar of St. Raymond parish since 2009. He previously served as parochial vicar of St. Margaret’s, Pearl River, and Immaculate Conception, Woodbourne. He was ordained in 1968.

Msgr. Michael Crimmins had served as parochial vicar of Holy Name of Jesus-St. Gregory the Great since 2015. He was pastor of St. Gregory the Great, 2006-2015, and of St. Malachy’s, Manhattan, 1991-2001. He was director of the archdiocesan Society for the Propagation of the Faith, 2002-2005, and coordinator of the University Apostolate and Campus Ministry, 1990-1997. He was temporary administrator of St. Philip Neri, the Bronx, 2002, and administrator of Notre Dame, Manhattan, 1981-1987. He was parochial vicar of St. Clare’s, Staten Island, 2005-2006, and of the following Manhattan parishes: Notre Dame, 1979-1981; Transfiguration, 1977-1979; St. Patrick’s Cathedral, 1975-1977; St. Joseph, 1974-1975; and Blessed Sacrament, 1970-1974. He was ordained in 1970 and named a monsignor in 1999.

Father Joseph Kelly had served as spiritual director of Cathedral Seminary House of Formation since 2011. He was pastor of St. Anthony’s, Commonwealth Avenue, the Bronx, 1995-2011. He was spiritual director of St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie, 1988-1995. He was director of the Parish Mission Team, Suffern, 1986-1988, and also served as a team member, 1981-1986. He was parochial vicar of Holy Spirit, the Bronx, 1978-1981. He was ordained in 1978.

Father John Kostek had served as administrator of St. John Neumann since 2010. He was pastor of St. Ann, Staten Island, 2004-2010. He was parochial vicar of Holy Child, Staten Island, 2001-2003, and Our Lady of Victory, Manhattan, 1998-2001. He was ordained for the Diocese of Albany in 1973 and was incardinated into the archdiocese in 2003.

Father Peter Meehan had served as parochial vicar of Our Saviour-St. Stephen and Our Lady of the Scapular and the Chapel of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary since 2015. He was pastor of Our Lady of the Rosary, Manhattan, 1999-2015, and St. Emeric, Manhattan, 1987-1999. He was administrator of St. Mary’s, Haverstraw, 1986-1987. He served in the University Apostolate for 14 years, as chaplain of the College of Mount St. Vincent, NYU and Bronx Community College. He was parochial vicar of St. John, Kingsbridge, the Bronx, and St. Teresa’s, Manhattan. He was ordained in 1968.

Father Louis Van Thanh had served as parochial vicar of Holy Innocents since 2011. He also served as parochial vicar at St. Patrick, Newburgh, 1996-2011, and St. Christopher, Staten Island, 1994-1996. He was ordained in 1994.
