Thomas K. Dicks, a former principal of four Catholic schools, died Jan. 25. He was 80.

He was the father of Father Thomas Dicks, pastor of St. Mary’s, Marlboro-St. James, Milton.

He was principal of Our Lady Queen of Peace School, 2003-2007; St. Peter’s, 1998-2000; Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 1996-1998, all on Staten Island; and Holy Trinity, Poughkeepsie 1995-1996. He was director of development at St. Peter’s School, 2000-2002.

He coached hundreds of students in varsity basketball, baseball and golf, including at St. Peter’s Girls High School, Warriors Basketball Camp and Staten Island CYO Basketball.

He was the founder of the Tiger Camp basketball camp, where thousands of children spent their summers playing in clinics and training in basketball fundamentals.

He and his wife Joan were married 59 years. In addition to raising five children of their own, they were foster parents through the Foundling Hospital.

Born in the West Brighton section of Staten Island, he resided in Oakwood Heights. He was a Korean War veteran and worked as a chemical analyst for Procter and Gamble, 1959-1972. 

He is survived by his wife and children; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews; two sisters and a brother. He was preceded in death by seven siblings, including Father Leon Dicks, O.F.M. Conv.

A Funeral Mass was offered Jan. 30 at St. Charles Church, Staten Island. Interment was at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Staten Island.
