Timothy A. Mitchell, editor and publisher of Pro Ecclesia Magazine and an outspoken proponent and defender of traditional Catholic teaching and practice, died Sept. 18 in Manhattan at the Jewish Home and Hospital. He was 80. A resident of Manhattan, he also was president of the Pro Ecclesia Foundation. A World War II veteran, he earned a bachelor's degree from St. Francis College in Brooklyn and a master's and doctorate, both in philosophy, from St. John's University in Queens. He was the author of several books on philosophy. Among the honors he received were the Freedom Award of the Cardinal Mindszenty Foundation, 1997; the Outstanding American Award of the Catholic War Veterans, 1987; and the Christ the King Award of the Christian Law Institute, 1977. He was predeceased by his wife, Julie Zuback Mitchell. Surviving are two sisters, Catherine Krein and Theresa Crider. A Funeral Mass was offered Sept. 22 at St. Veronica's Church in Manhattan, with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Queens.
