11 Archdiocesan Priests Celebrating Silver Jubilees

Eleven priests of the archdiocese are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their ordination this year. Cardinal Dolan celebrated a Mass of thanksgiving with the jubilarians at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie, June 11.

Cardinal John O’Connor ordained nine of the jubilarians. Father Stefan Chanas and Father Omumuawuike Ambrose Madu were ordained in the Slovak Republic and Nigeria, respectively, before being incardinated into the archdiocese.

Father Stephen Challman, who is in residence at St. Rita’s parish on Staten Island, is serving as needed at St. Ann’s and other Staten Island parishes. He served as parochial vicar of Holy Rosary, Staten Island, 1996-2012. Born in Omaha, Neb., he studied for the priesthood at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie.

Father Stefan Chanas has served as parochial vicar of St. Charles parish on Staten Island since 2016. He was parochial vicar at St. John Nepomucene in Manhattan, 2012-2016 and 2003-2012, and temporary administrator, 2012. Ordained in his native Slovak Republic, he was incardinated into the archdiocese in 2018.

Father Joseph Fallon has been pastor of St. Gregory Barbarigo, Garnerville, since 2018. He was pastor of Most Precious Blood, Walden, 2007-2018. He served as parochial vicar of Immaculate Conception, Tuckahoe, 2002-2007, and St. Joseph, Middletown, 1996-2002. Born in Suffern, he studied for the priesthood at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie.

Father John Fraser has served since 2018 as pastor of St. Malachy’s, Manhattan, where he was temporary administrator, 2017-2018. He was pastor of Holy Rosary, Hawthorne, 2005-2017. He served as parochial vicar of St. Bernard, White Plains, 2005; St. Patrick’s Cathedral, 1999-2005, where he was assistant master of ceremonies; and St. Anthony’s, Yonkers, 1996-1999. Born in Goshen, he studied for the priesthood at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie.

Father John Higgins has been pastor of Holy Cross, the Bronx, since 2017. He was at Assumption, Peekskill, as pastor, 2006-2017, and parochial vicar, 2005-2006. He served as parochial vicar of St. Gregory the Great, Garnerville, 2002-2005, and Holy Rosary, the Bronx, 1996-2002. Born in Manhattan, he studied for the priesthood at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie.

Father Andrew King has been master of ceremonies at St. Patrick’s Cathedral since 2012. He served as professor of dogma and dean of students and admissions at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie, 2006-2012; was a faculty member at Msgr. Farrell High School, Staten Island, 2000-2003; and was parochial vicar of St. Clare’s, Staten Island, 1997-2000, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the Bronx, 1996. Born in New York City, he studied for the priesthood at North American College in Rome.

Father John Lynch has been pastor of St. Augustine’s, Highland, since 2017. He was pastor of St. Mary and St. Andrew, Ellenville, 2005-2017. He served as parochial vicar of St. Joachim-St. John the Evangelist, Beacon, 2003-2005; St. Aedan’s, Pearl River, 2002-2003; and St. Peter’s, Monticello, 1996-2002. Born on Long Island, he studied for the priesthood at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie.

Father Omumuawuike Ambrose Madu has served since 2017 as pastor of Our Lady of Good Counsel, Staten Island, where he was administrator, 2016-2017. He served in the Bronx as parochial vicar of St. Brendan-St. Ann, 2015-2016; Holy Family, 2013-2015; and St. Anthony of Padua, 2004-2009. He was a hospital chaplain at New York Presbyterian, 2009-2013. He was ordained for the Claretian Missionaries in Nigeria and was incardinated into the archdiocese in 2015.

Father Andrew O’Connor has served since 2013 as pastor of St. Mary’s, Manhattan, where he was administrator, 2012-2013, and parochial vicar, 1996-1998. He served as parochial vicar of Holy Family, the Bronx, 2007-2013; Holy Trinity, Manhattan, 2001-2007; and St. Augustine’s, New City, 1998-2001. Born in Evanston, Ill., he studied for the priesthood at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie.  

Father Jarlath Quinn has served as pastor of St. Peter-Our Lady of the Rosary-St. Joseph Chapel, Manhattan, since 2016. He was pastor of St. John the Evangelist, Mahopac, 2011-2016, and Our Lady Help of Christians, Staten Island, 2003-2011. He served as parochial vicar of Resurrection, Rye, 2001-2003; and Our Lady of the Assumption, the Bronx, 1996-2001. A native of Ireland, he studied for the priesthood at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie.

Father Richard Veras has been director of pastoral formation and a faculty member of St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie, since 2015. He served as chaplain and faculty member at Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Poughkeepsie, 2014-2015. He was pastor of St. Rita’s, Staten Island, 2008-2014. He was a faculty member of Archbishop Stepinac High School, White Plains, 2004-2008. He was parochial vicar of St. Joseph-St. Thomas, Staten Island, 1997-2004; and Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the Bronx, 1996-1997. Born in the Bronx, he studied for the priesthood at St. Joseph’s Seminary.
