11 Priests Named Pastors of Parishes in the Archdiocese

Eleven priests have been appointed pastors of parishes in the archdiocese, the Cardinal’s Office has announced.
The pastors are Father Michael Kissane, O. Carm., St. Simon Stock-St. Joseph, the Bronx; Father Thomas Lutz, Our Lady of Loretto, Cold Spring; Father Thadeus Aravindathu, St. Patrick, Armonk; Father Matthew Furey, St. Martin de Porres, Poughkeepsie; Msgr. Ferdinando Berardi, Blessed Sacrament, Staten Island; Father Christopher Monturo, Sacred Heart-Our Lady of Pompeii, Dobbs Ferry; Father Thomas Byrnes, St. Anthony of Padua, West Harrison; Father Richard Marrano, St. John Chrysostom, the Bronx; Father James Benavides Quinayas, Our Lady of Angels, the Bronx; Father Thomas Kiely, St. John the Evangelist, Woodstock; and Father William Elder, Most Holy Redeemer-Nativity, Manhattan.
Father Kissane stepped into his new role June 1. All other pastors will assume their new roles July 1.

Father Thadeus Aravindathu has been administrator of St. Bonifice, Wesley Hills, since 2012, and director of St. Mary’s Syro-Malabar Catholic Community of Rockland since 2010. He was parochial vicar of St. Francis of Assisi, Nyack, 2010-2012, and was a pastor and parochial vicar in the Archdiocese of St. Paul-Minneapolis, 1997-2009. He was ordained in his native India in 1983 and incardinated into the archdiocese in 2016.
Father James Benavides Quinayas has served as administrator of Our Lady of Angels, the Bronx, since last year. He was parochial vicar of St. John Chrysostom, the Bronx, 2015-2018. He was ordained in 2015.

Msgr. Ferdinando Berardi has been superior of Casa Santa Maria Residence, Rome, since 2014. He was pastor of Holy Family, New Rochelle, 2002-2014, and was director of the archdiocesan Office for the Propagation of the Faith, 1993-2002. He was dean of the Archdiocesan Catechetical Institute and director of the Pastoral Life Center, 1988-1993; a vice chancellor of the archdiocese, 1982-1987; and parochial vicar of Blessed Sacrament, Staten Island, 1977-1981. He was ordained in 1977 and named a monsignor in 1995.

Father Thomas Byrnes has been pastor of Sacred Heart, Monroe, since 2007. He was parochial vicar of St. John the Evangelist, Mahopac, 2004-2007, and St. Stephen, Warwick, 1999-2004. He was ordained in 1999.

Father William Elder has served on the faculty of St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie, since 2012. He was with the Metropolitan Tribunal as a judicial vicar, 2009-2012; judge, 1992-2009; and defender of the bond, 1989-1992. He was parochial vicar at Sacred Heart, Suffern, and St. Joseph, Yorkville, and also recently served as a judicial vicar in the Diocese of Lake Charles, La. He was ordained in 1981.

Father Matthew Furey has served as pastor of Sacred Heart, Suffern, since 2016. He was at St. Francis Xavier, the Bronx, as pastor, 2010-2016, and administrator, 2008-2010. He was parochial vicar of Sacred Heart, Suffern, 2005-2008; St. Clare’s, Staten Island, 2000-2005; and St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus, the Bronx, 1999. He was ordained in 1999.

Father Thomas Kiely has served as pastor of Our Lady of Loretto, Cold Spring, since 2013. He served at Holy Spirit, Cortlandt Manor, as pastor, 2001-2013, and administrator, 2000-2001. He was parochial vicar of St. Catharine’s, Blauvelt, 1998-2000; St. Theresa’s, Briarcliff Manor, 1995-1998; St. Gregory the Great, Harrison, 1991-1995; and St. Joseph’s Middletown, 1988-1991. He was ordained in 1988.

Father Michael Kissane, O. Carm., completed a three-year term as prior provincial of the Carmelite Province of St. Elias last year. He was at St. Simon Stock, the Bronx, as pastor, 1999-2003 and 1989-1992; administrator, 1987-1989; and parochial vicar, 1986-1987. He was parochial vicar of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Middletown, 1994-1996, and prior and vocations director of St. Eliseus Priory, Tappan, 1994-1999. He also served in Florida and Washington, D.C. He was ordained in the Order of Carmelites, St. Elias Province, in 1986.

Father Thomas Lutz has been temporary administrator of Holy Name of Mary-Assumption, Montgomery, since March, and previously served on the faculty at Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Poughkeepsie, 2017-2019. He was pastor of St. Augustine, Highland, 2011-2017, and Sacred Heart, Patterson, 2005-2011, where he was administrator, 2004-2005. He served as parochial vicar of St. Augustine, Highland, 1996-2004; St. Francis of Assisi, Newburgh, 1995-1996; and St. Mary’s, Marlboro, 1993-1995. He was ordained in 1993.

Father Richard Marrano served since 2018 as administrator of St. John Chrysostom, the Bronx. He was parochial vicar of St. Stephen, Warwick, 2017-2018, and St. Rose of Lima, Manhattan, 2013-2017. He was ordained in 2013.

Father Christopher Monturo has been pastor of St. Anthony of Padua, West Harrison, since 2007. He was parochial vicar of St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus, the Bronx, 2003-2007. He was ordained in 2003
