Aim Higher

In May 2020, Rep. Nancy Pelosi and the House of Representatives approved a Covid-19 relief package much larger than the final version approved and signed recently by President Trump. Sen. Mitch McConnell and Steve Mnuchin, as well as President Trump, attempted to attach unrelated issues to the final bill, stalling the process for seven months. They also greatly decreased the amount to be given to those in need (for rent, food, medical care, etc.). So, let us give a muffled word of thanks and remember that the funds involved are there because we pay taxes for the benefit of all.

Action based on the words of Pope Francis in order to protect all creation—especially the poor, the marginalized, the ill, the elderly—should supersede politically motivated decisions. Although not perfect (keep working on abortion), pray that the upcoming years will more reflect Pope Francis’ words than the past four years. Jan. 6 in Washington, D.C., unfortunately, speaks for itself!
