Nine religious order priests—five Capuchin Franciscans, three Franciscans and one Redemptorist—have been named pastors and one an administrator of parishes in the archdiocese, the Cardinal's Office has announced. Three parochial vicars also have been appointed.

The newly named pastors are Father Robert Abbatiello, O.F.M. Cap., Good Shepherd, Inwood; Father Michael Banks, O.F.M. Cap., St. John the Baptist parish, Manhattan; Father Thomas Faiola, O.F.M. Cap., Our Lady of Sorrows, Manhattan; Father Bernard Maloney, O.F.M. Cap., St. Joseph's, New Paltz; Father Maurice Moreau, O.F.M. Cap., Sacred Heart, Yonkers; Father Joseph Juracek, O.F.M., St. Mary's, Obernberg; Father Daniel T. Kenna O.F.M., Holy Name of Jesus, Manhattan; Father Steven J. Pavignano, O.F.M., All Saints, Manhattan; and Father Charles McDonald, C.Ss.R., Most Holy Redeemer, Manhattan.

Father Gustavo Nieto, I.V.E., has been named administrator of St. Jerome's, the Bronx.

The newly assigned parochial vicars are Father Justin S. Cinnante, St. Columba's, Hopewell Junction; Father Arthur F. Rojas, St. Peter's, Monticello; and Father Joseph T. Tran, St. Teresa's, Manhattan.

The appointments became effective in August and on Sept. 1.

Father Robert Abbatiello, O.F.M. Cap., had served as pastor and guardian in Middletown, Conn., since 2002. He was director of Capuchin Youth and Family Ministries, Garrison, 1998-2002, and did vocation ministry, 1993-1998. Before that he served at two parishes in Brooklyn. He entered the Capuchins in 1982, made final vows in 1986 and was ordained in 1990.

Father Michael Banks, O.F.M. Cap., had served as provincial minister of the Capuchins' Province of St. Mary since 2002. Before that he was vicar provincial, 1999-2002, and personnel director, 1993-1996. He was pastor of St. Joseph's parish, New Paltz, 1996-1999. He was parochial vicar of St. John the Baptist, Manhattan, 1986-1987, and was chaplain at St. Agnes High School, Manhattan, 1987-1988. He also served at a parish in East Patchogue. He entered the Capuchin Franciscans in 1978, made final vows in 1982 and was ordained in 1984.

Father Thomas Faiola, O.F.M. Cap., served on the faculty at Iona College, New Rochelle, 2007-2008. Before that he was a high school psychologist and counselor in Massachusetts. He was guardian of Our Lady of Sorrows Friary, Manhattan, and also was involved in formation ministry, 2000-2002. He served at Our Lady of Sorrows and St. John the Baptist, also Manhattan, and at a parish in Manhattan, N.H., while pursuing graduate studies in the 1990s. He did pastoral ministry in Honduras and Nicaragua, 1985-1991. He entered the Capuchins in 1979, made final vows in 1984 and was ordained in 1985.

Father Bernard M. Maloney, O.F.M. Cap., had served as pastor and guardian of St. John the Baptist parish, Manhattan, since 2002. He was pastor of a parish in Interlacken, 1998-2002, and also of Sacred Heart Church, Yonkers, where he also was guardian, 1993-1998. He was provincial vicar and personnel director from 1987 to 1993. From 1981 to 1987 he was pastor of a parish in East Patchogue. He was parochial vicar of St. Joseph's, New Paltz, for six years before that. From 1970 to 1972 he taught at Sacred Heart High School, Yonkers, and served at the parish there. He was then director of the Capuchins' postulancy program and vocation director. He entered the Capuchins in 1961, made final vows in 1965 and was ordained in 1969.

Father Maurice Moreau, O.F.M. Cap., had served as pastor of St. Joseph's parish, New Paltz, since 1999. He previously served at parishes in Manchester, N.H., and in Guam. He entered the Capuchins in 1991, made final vows in 1997 and was ordained in 1998.

Father Charles P. McDonald, C.Ss.R., had served in parishes in Baltimore and Philadelphia, where he was a pastor, for the past eight years. In 1999, he served at Immaculate Conception, the Bronx. He also was a pastor in Lancaster, Pa., 1993-1999, and a parochial vicar, 1981-1986. He was provincial vocations director for the Redemptorists, 1986-1993. From 1977 to 1981 he was a missioner in the Redemptorists' vice province in Campo Grande, Brazil. His first assignments were in Pittsburgh, Pa., and in Brooklyn. He entered the Redemptorists in 1965 and was ordained in 1971.

Father Joseph Juracek, O.F.M., was parochial vicar of a parish in East Rutherford, N.J., 2004-2008. From 1993 to 2004 he was stationed at St. Francis of Assisi, Manhattan, as vicar of the friary; a student at Fordham University; and a member of the counseling center and ministry staff. He was parochial vicar of St. Stephen of Hungary, Manhattan, 1990-1993. He served at a parish in Brant Beach, N.J., and received his licentiate in sacred theology from the Weston School of Theology. He entered the Franciscans in 1978, made final vows in 1982 and was ordained in 1983.

Father Daniel T. Kenna, O.F.M., had served as parochial vicar of Holy Name of Jesus since 2006. Before that he was a high school president in Raleigh, N.C., where he also served as a pastor and parochial vicar of a parish. He was part of a team ministry at a parish in Beach Haven, N.J., 1990-1993, and guardian and director of novices in Brookline, Mass., 1985-1990. He was a pastor in Winsted, Conn., 1979-1984, and also served as parochial vicar there. He was vice president of student affairs at St. Bonaventure University in Olean. He entered the Franciscans in 1967, made final vows in 1971 and was ordained in 1973.

Father Steven J. Pavignano, O.F.M., had served as parochial vicar of a parish in Hartford, Conn., since 2005. Previously he was pastor in Greenville, S.C., and in Thomasville, Ga. He was director of campus ministry at the University of Georgia and a campus minister at Furman University. He was administrator of a parish in Columbia, S.C. He entered the Franciscans in 1973, made final vows in 1977 and was ordained in 1978.

Father Gustavo Nieto, I.V.E., has been provincial of the Immaculate Conception Province of the Institute of the Incarnate Word in the United States, Canada and Guyana since 2001. He served for several months as administrator of St. Thomas Aquinas parish, the Bronx, in 2005. He served as a professor at Seminario Maria Madre del Verbo Incarnado in St. Raphael, Argentina, where he studied for the priesthood. He entered the Institute of the Incarnate Word in 1986, made final vows in 1992 and was ordained in 1993.

Father Justin S. Cinnante had served at Holy Rosary, the Bronx, since his ordination in 2007.

Father Arthur F. Rojas served most recently at St. Peter's parish, Yonkers. He was ordained in 2006.

Father Joseph T. Tran had served at Holy Child, Staten Island, since his ordination in 2005.
