Archdiocese Sending $15,000 To Assist U.S. Disaster Recovery

The archdiocese is sending $15,000 to assist in the recovery from the devastating impact of Hurricane Laura and the California wildfires and to support the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Emergency Disaster Fund. 

The funds will come from the archdiocese’s own charity emergency funds, which show a small balance from previous parish collections. 

In a letter to priests of the archdiocese Sept. 18, Msgr. Joseph LaMorte, vicar general and moderator of the curia, said the archdiocese would “welcome further assistance from parishes or individuals who want to add their own funds to the archdiocese’s gifts.” Funds will be used to support the efforts of Catholic Charities USA and Catholic Relief Services, the official relief agencies of the American Catholic Church, to answer immediate needs for food and water, shelter and medical care, and the USCCB’s efforts for the Church’s pastoral and reconstruction needs.
