Nearly 100 budding engineers—freshmen, sophomores and juniors—from five Catholic high schools on Staten Island designed and built bridge constructions and programmed mini robots as part of an engineering conference April 13 at Notre Dame Academy on Staten Island. “Engineering Tomorrow” showcased engineering disciplines and the global challenges engineers address. Students from Notre Dame Academy, St. John Villa Academy, St. Joseph by-the-Sea, St. Joseph Hill Academy and Moore Catholic High Schhool participated in two breakout experiments: bridge building and robotics. Engineers from General Electric and Global Infrastructure Partners guided students as they experimented with various bridge designs and programmed robots to move through a challenge course. College and graduate engineering students from Manhattan College also assisted the Staten Island students.
