Brother Albert Aldrich, O.F.M.

Brother Albert Aldrich, O.F.M., who spent 35 years in service in Manhattan, died Jan. 24 at Holy Name Friary in Ringwood, N.J. He was 85.

He was coordinator of the St. Francis Breadline at St. Francis of Assisi parish on West 31st Street and director of the Mass Office, overseeing administrative tasks of the parish, 1985-1993. Beginning in 1972, he had served as porter and procurator there.

At St. Stephen of Hungary Friary on the Upper East Side he was vicar in 1985, and earlier had served there as a porter, cook and procurator, and as associate director of the St. Jude Apostolate. He was a cook at Holy Cross Friary in Callicoon, 1954-1958.

He had also served in Boston and Providence, R.I. He retired in 2006.

Born in Lackawanna, he entered the Franciscan Friars of the Holy Name Province in 1949 and professed final vows in 1953.

He is survived by his brother, Edward.

A Funeral Mass was offered Jan. 29 at Holy Name Friary in Ringwood. Burial was at God’s Acre Cemetery, also in Ringwood.
