Brother Harold V. Horne, M.M., who served as a missioner to Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan, died Nov. 11 at Maryknoll Society Center in Ossining. He was 91.
Brother Horne served as a regional assistant in Maryknoll’s Taiwan Region, 2003-2015. From 2000 to 2003, he helped Japanese people in Taipei who suffered from alcohol dependency. In Japan, he worked with people addicted to drugs and alcohol, 1985-1995.
He returned to the United States and was director of the Brothers Formation Program, 1995-2000.
Brother Horne served at Mission St. Teresa at Maryknoll, 1978-1981, and he earlier served in Philadelphia and New York City.
In the 1960s, he was assigned to Hong Kong to work with refugees from mainland China. While there, he was a teacher and administrator at Maryknoll schools.
Born in Philadelphia, he served in the U.S. Navy, 1945-1946. He entered Maryknoll in 1954 and made final vows in 1959. He held a bachelor’s degree in education from Rogers College at Maryknoll and master’s in professional studies from New York Theological Seminary.
He is survived by four nieces and one nephew.
His body was donated to science at New York Medical College in Valhalla. A Memorial Mass was offered Dec. 28 at Queen of the Apostles Chapel at Maryknoll.
