Brother Kieran J. Stretton, M.M., a missioner to Africa, the South Pacific and Hong Kong, died Nov. 13 at Mission St. Teresa’s in Ossining. He was 87.

He was assigned in 1961 to Tanzania, Africa, where he served six years in the dioceses of Shinyanga and Musoma as part of a Maryknoll team bringing medical treatment to people in the bush country.

In 1980, he was assigned to the South Pacific island of Western Samoa, serving there until he was transferred to the Maryknoll Center House in Stanley, Hong Kong, in 1985. There he worked at a Catholic school for disabled children until 1991.

Born in Brooklyn, he entered Maryknoll in 1948 and made final vows in 1953. During World War II he served in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific theater, 1943-1946.

A Funeral Mass was offered Nov. 18 at Queen of Apostles Chapel in Ossining. Burial was in Maryknoll Society Cemetery.
