Brother Lawrence Killelea, C.F.C.

Brother Lawrence Killelea, C.F.C., who was a principal at Power Memorial Academy and Rice High School, both in Manhattan, died June 15 at St. Joseph’s Residence in New Rochelle. He was 89.

He taught at St. Cecilia’s, Manhattan and Iona Grammar School, New Rochelle, as well as at Cardinal Hayes High School, the Bronx, and Power Memorial.

He was also a teacher at schools in Rochester and in New Jersey, and a principal at Bergen Catholic High School in New Jersey.

He was a consultor for the Eastern American Province, and was a resident at St. Joseph’s since 2013.

Born in New York City, he joined the Congregation of Christian Brothers in 1942. He made his final profession of vows in 1951.

Brother Killelea earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Fordham University. He also held a master’s in religious education from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. and a master’s in education administration from the University of Rochester.

A Funeral Mass was offered June 19 at Holy Family Church in New Rochelle. Interment was at the Christian Brothers Cemetery in West Park.
