Brother Liam Young, S.A.

Brother Liam Young, S.A., who served for many years at Graymoor in Garrison, died on Nov. 24 at Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt Manor. He was 83.

At Graymoor, he served as director of the Mass department, 1998-2010; was manager of the bookstore, 1995-1997; and worked in the planned giving office, 1994-1995, and the religious articles shop, 1977-1983. He also was procurator and bookkeeper for St. Paul’s Friary, 1985-1991, and served in the community development department, 1967-1972.

He also served in Washington, D.C., and North Carolina, and in London.

Born in Philadelphia, he entered the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement in 1956 and professed final vows in 1963.

He served in the U.S. Army before entering the order.

He is survived by a brother, Francis, and a sister, Mary Walls.

A Funeral Mass was offered on Nov. 25 in the St. Pius X Building Chapel at Graymoor. Burial followed in the Friars’ Cemetery.
