Brother Nicholas Aloysius Caffrey, F.M.S.

Brother Nicholas Aloysius Caffrey, F.M.S., a teacher at Mount St. Michael Academy in the Bronx for five years, died March 10 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. He was 85.

Brother Caffrey taught at Mount St. Michael, 1962-1967, and was treasurer there, 1981-1984.

He also served as secretary for the Marist Brothers’ Poughkeepsie Province, and was business manager at Siena House in the Bronx.

Born in New York City, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps., 1951-1953, before entering the Marist Brothers Novitiate at Tyngsboro, Mass., in 1957. He professed his final vows in 1963.

He received a bachelor’s degree in literature from Marist College and a master’s in administration/leadership from the University of Notre Dame.

Brother Caffrey is survived by his brother John. A Funeral Mass was offered March 19 at Mount St. Michael Academy. Burial was the next day at the Marist Brothers Cemetery in Esopus.
