Brother Richard James, O.F.M.

Brother Richard James, O.F.M., who taught at St. Anthony of Padua School in Manhattan for three years, died March 17 at St. Lawrence Friary in Beacon. He was 86.

Brother James was at St. Anthony, 1988-1991. He also served on the staff of the Franciscan Pilgrimage Office in Manhattan in the 1980s and 1990s.

He also served in Brooklyn, Queens, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Florida, New Hampshire and Washington, D.C.

Born in South Colton, he was received into the Franciscans’ Holy Name Province in 1962 and professed final vows in 1966.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from St. Francis College, Brooklyn.

His sister, Keitha Macintire, survives him.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated March 20 at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Butler, N.J. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Butler, N.J.
