Capuchin Franciscans Appoint Leadership Team

The new leadership team for the Capuchin Franciscan Friars of the Province of St. Mary began a three-year term Nov. 22 after being appointed by Father Roberto Genuin, O.F.M. Cap., general minister of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchins.

All five friars on the team have ministered and resided in the archdiocese.

Father Michael Greco, O.F.M. Cap., who was reappointed provincial minister, is a Bronx native who resides at St. Conrad Friary in White Plains where he is guardian of the local fraternity. He assists several parish communities, including Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Pelham Manor, and Holy Family, New Rochelle.

Father Robert Abbatiello, O.F.M. Cap., was reappointed vicar provincial minister. The Yonkers native is pastor of Sacred Heart parish in Yonkers, president of Sacred Heart High School in Yonkers and fraternity guardian.

Brother John Shento, O.F.M. Cap., a native of Trenton, N.J., was named second councilor and serves as provincial vicar for the Protection of Children and Safe Environment Issues. He resides at Sacred Heart Friary in Yonkers, where he was guardian of the local friar fraternity for nine years.

Brother Lake Herman, O.F.M. Cap., was selected as third councilor and has served on the provincial council since 2014. The native of Bryan, Ohio, previously served at Capuchin Youth & Family Ministries, Garrison, and St. Joachim, Beacon.

Father John Gallagher, O.F.M. Cap., who is serving as fourth councilor, resides at Sacred Heart Friary, Yonkers, where the Bronx native serves as facilities manager and fraternal vicar of the local friar fraternity.

The Capuchin friars, who have resided and served in the archdiocese since 1867, minister at Our Lady of Sorrows parish, Lower East Side, Manhattan; Holy Cross-St. John the Baptist parish, Manhattan; Sacred Heart  parish/Friary, Yonkers; St. Clare Friary, Yonkers; Capuchin Youth & Family Ministries, Graymoor/Garrison; St. Conrad Provincialate, White Plains; and St. Joseph parish/Friary, New Paltz.
