The Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm in Germantown have elected a new prioress general and general council.
Mother Mary Rose Heery, O.Carm., was elected prioress general Sept. 14. On the following day, the congregation elected a new general council. Mother Mary Rose, a native of Queens, served as vicar general for the past six years.
The new vicar general/first councilor is Sister M. Jeane Francis Haley, O. Carm., a native of Oak Park, Ill.
The other new council members are Sister M. Cyril Methodius Kasper, O. Carm., second councilor, from Camp Springs, Md.; Sister Maureen Theresa Murray, O.Carm., third councilor, from Brooklyn; Sister M. Peter Lillian Angeline DiMaria, O. Carm., fourth councilor, from Enfield, Conn.; Sister M. Richard Carmel Brusca, O. Carm., secretary general, from Brooklyn; and Sister M. Veronica Robert Bien, O. Carm., treasurer general, from Cincinnati.
The sisters care for the aged and infirm in nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the United States and in Dublin, Ireland. In the archdiocese, they staff Carmel Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center on Staten Island, St. Patrick’s Home in the Bronx and Mary Manning Walsh Home in Manhattan.
