Catechetical Forums Focus on Discipleship

Posted

The 2017 Catechetical Forums will take place at Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx, Saturday, Oct. 14, and at Sacred Heart parish in Monroe, Saturday, Oct. 28.

Auxiliary Bishop Dominick Lagonegro, episcopal vicar for Orange, Sullivan, Ulster and Rockland, will celebrate the opening Mass in Monroe, and Auxiliary Bishop Gerald T. Walsh, vicar for clergy, will be the celebrant in the Bronx. Both Masses will begin at 8:45 a.m.

Keynote speakers are Father Dempsey Rosales Acosta, chairman of the theology department at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, (English/Spanish) for the Bronx; and Mrs. Diane Lampitt, vice president for product management at William H. Sadlier Inc., (English) for Monroe.

The forums, sponsored annually by the archdiocesan Catechetical Office, provide theological, methodological and spiritual enrichment to the more than 8,000 catechists and directors/coordinators of religious education who hand on the faith to children in parish religious education programs. The forums also welcome any other interested adults.

This year’s theme, “Called to be Signs of God’s Presence,” reflects the evangelizing nature of the Church, which calls all Christians to be missionary disciples who hand on the faith by teaching and by their personal witness.
