Catholic Charities to Be Honored at SOAR! Dinner

Posted

The annual Support Our Aging Religious (SOAR!) awards dinner will honor archdiocesan Catholic Charities at the New York Athletic Club, 180 Central Park South in Manhattan Thursday, Sept. 28.

Catholic Charities, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, will receive the Elizabeth Ann Seton Award for its leadership in the Catholic community. Catholic Charities supports New Yorkers by feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, supporting the physically and emotionally challenged, protecting and nurturing children and youth, welcoming and integrating immigrants and refugees, and strengthening families.

Also receiving the Seton Award will be Wally Probst, a longtime supporter of SOAR! who retired from Merrill Lynch last year after a 50-year career as a financial adviser.

Helene Shepard, national regent of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, will receive the Dorothy Day Service Award. She has been an active parishioner of St. Mary’s in Washingtonville for 40 years.

SOAR!, founded in 1986, offers grants to meet the immediate needs of aging Catholic sisters, brothers and priests. This year, it has provided $1.2 million to religious communities across the United States. Dinner proceeds will benefit SOAR!

The evening begins with a reception at 6 p.m.; dinner will be at 7 p.m.
