Catholic Schools Week in the Archdiocese of New York

The following activities will take place at Catholic elementary schools in the archdiocese during National Catholic Schools Week, Jan. 27-Feb. 2.

Dutchess County

St. Mary School in Fishkill begins Catholic Schools Week with a student-led parish Mass on Sunday, Jan. 27, at 9:45 a.m.
On Monday, Jan. 28, students will be treated to a sports-themed dress down day. Students may wear jerseys representing their favorite sports teams, with students vs. faculty volleyball game in the afternoon.
St. Mary School, Fishkill, will hold open house for current families, 9-10 a.m., on Touring Tuesday, Jan. 29. Prospective families will visit 9-11 a.m. The students will participate in a Living Rosary at 1 p.m. Parents and guardians are welcome.
Spirit Day will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 30, when students can top their outfits with crazy hats. An ice cream social sponsored by St. Mary’s School PPA will take place at 1 p.m.
Students will dress down in cozy sweats on Thursday and breakfast will be served for lunch. The Student Council will sponsor a movie for all students.
Catholic Schools Week will conclude with First Friday Mass at 9 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 1, followed by a special relatives reception in the gym.
St. Denis-St. Columba School in Hopewell Junction will begin Catholic Schools Week with open house Sunday, Jan. 27, 10 a.m.-noon. Stop by the Scholastic Book Fair during open house. The book fair will continue throughout the week.
St. Denis-St. Columba will participate in Touring Tuesday, Jan. 29, 9-11a.m.
The school community, in conjunction with Catholic Charities’ Feeding Our Neighbors campaign, will kick off the "Doing All we CAN Food Drive," benefiting the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry, Monday, Jan. 28. On Manic Monday, staff and students will show their school spirit with wacky hats, ties, socks, hair accessories and sneakers.
We will have a "Gathering of Bookworms," Tuesday, Jan. 29, when the school community will assemble for a schoolwide read-in. The SDSC Storytellers will present a winter edition of “Storytime” for children in pre-K through second grade. Storytime brings beloved children’s books to life through puppetry, songs and interactive dancing.
The PSA will celebrate the dedication of the men and women who devote themselves to St. Denis-St. Columba School's mission with a "summer picnic," Wednesday, Jan. 30. Students will dress in bright, colorful summer clothes on this no uniform day. "A taste of summer in winter" brings an ice cream social as we celebrate our "how sweet it is" to be a Catholic school community.
On Thursday, Jan. 31, students will give thanks to those living in service to others. Students will make personal cards for retired religious and clergy. Upper hall students will partner with their lower hall buddies to make lunches for our neighbors in need.
Catholic Schools Week concludes with a liturgy on Friday, Feb. 1, at 10 a.m.

Holy Trinity School in Poughkeepsie will kick off Catholic Schools Week by thanking parishioners of Holy Trinity during Sunday Masses, Jan. 27. Open house will take place 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
Holy Trinity will participate in Touring Tuesday, Jan. 29, 9-11 a.m., or by appointment. Throughout the week, Holy Trinity will conduct a Penny Challenge. The funds will benefit the school and parish. We will collect food for the Feeding Our Neighbors campaign.
On Monday, Jan. 28, grandparents and special seniors will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Mass. In the afternoon, students in the upper grades will play a basketball challenge.
A schoolwide Religion Quiz Bowl will take place Tuesday, Jan. 29.
Career Day is Wednesday, Jan. 30. Parent professionals will inspire students to learn about employment goals. The Home School Association will sponsor an ice cream social between the volleyball games for grades pre-K through 8.
Thursday, Jan. 31, is Character Day; students will dress up as their favorite literary character.
Catholic Schools Week will conclude with a First Friday liturgy, Feb. 1, at 9 a.m., led by the Student Council. Auxiliary Bishop Peter Byrne will celebrate Mass and have breakfast with the school community.

St. Martin de Porres School in Poughkeepsie will hold a pancake breakfast prepared by the Parent School Association after Masses Sunday, Jan. 27.
On Monday, Jan. 28, "Let Our Faithful Spirit Shine Day" will take place. Dressed in St. Martin de Porres School Spirit Wear, our entire school will join in a schoolwide Fun Faithful Followers Trivia Game, where questions are based on Catholic teachings.
On Touring Tuesday, Jan. 29, open house for new parents will take place 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
On Wednesday, Jan. 30, we will celebrate “Well Wishes Wednesday.” The school will reach out with prayer cards and bookmarks to shut-ins in the parish community, as well as those who live in Avalon Nursing Home and the Landings Senior Center.
On Thursday, Jan. 31, St. Martin will celebrate the best kids in town by flipping our lids and shaking our toes—a special dress down day, with jeans, sneakers, wacky hats and wild hair, and crazy socks. We will also celebrate students by joining as a school community for movie day.
On Friday, Feb.1, a light breakfast will include doughnuts with dad and munchkins with mom. Catholic Schools Week will conclude at Mass, where we will thank the Lord for Catholic education and the many gifts we receive at St. Martin de Porres School. Open registration for the 2019-2020 school year will begin Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 9 a.m.

St. Peter School in Poughkeepsie will start Catholic Schools Week with a special Applebee's breakfast kickoff 8-10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26.
St. Peter's students will share their thoughts about the value of Catholic education during parish Masses Sunday, Jan. 27, St. Peter's will host open house 1-3 p.m. for new families.
On Monday, Jan. 28, students will dress in the school colors green and gold, and participate in a schoolwide Religion Bee at 1:30 p.m.
St. Peter's School will participate in Touring Tuesday, Jan. 29, 9-11a.m., or by appointment.
On Wednesday, Jan. 30, the school community will celebrate our faith with Religious Reading Buddies and Book Character Day. Students will present favorite characters from the Bible and literature.
Schoolwide BINGO will be held Thursday, Jan. 31, at 1:30 p.m. and our fourth annual BFF Dance will be held Thursday evening for all St. Peter’s family members. Catholic Schools Week will close at Mass Friday, Feb. 1, at 9:15 a.m.

St. Mary's School in Wappingers Falls will celebrate its 125th anniversary at our Catholic Schools Week Mass Sunday, Jan. 27, at 9 a.m. Following Mass, an alumni reception will take place in the gym, and an open house for prospective families will be held in the school until 11 a.m. An image of Our Lady of El Cisne will be blessed for the school lobby. The dedication underscores the devotion to Mary and the success of our Latino outreach within the community.
On Monday, the Mothers' Guild will host an ice cream social for all students.
St. Mary School will participate in Touring Tuesday, Jan. 29, 9-11 a.m. That afternoon, we will Drop Everything and Read to highlight the importance of literacy and the school’s participation in the Poughkeepsie Public Library's Little Read Program.
Special Relatives Day is planned for Wednesday morning, Jan. 30. Performances will take place in the gym followed by classroom visits for alumni, grandparents, parents, special relatives and the school’s bus drivers.
Thursday, Jan. 31, is Teachers’ Appreciation Day at St. Mary's, and it will feature the grades 7 and 8 volleyball challenge. Catholic Schools Week will conclude with First Friday Mass at 8:30 a.m.

Northern Westchester County
St. Columbanus School in Cortlandt Manor will start Catholic Schools Week with student speakers at local Masses Sunday, Jan. 27, followed by open house, 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Throughout the week, we will be collecting food for the Feeding Our Neighbors campaign.
On Monday, Jan. 28, we will have a schoolwide reading project with our buddies.
St. Columbanus School will participate in Touring Tuesday, Jan. 29, 9 a.m.-11a.m., or by appointment.
An ice cream social will be held Wednesday, Jan. 30, along with the Academics Jeopardy Olympics.
The celebration will continue with a dress down day, featuring crazy hats and socks Thursday, Jan. 31.
Catholic Schools Week will conclude Friday, Feb. 1, with a school liturgy and an honors assembly.

St. Patrick’s School in Bedford will hold its annual open house, Sunday, Jan. 27, 1-3 p.m.
On Monday, Jan. 28, the school community will gather for a morning prayer service honoring veterans. Students will make cards to be delivered to the local veterans hospital. Students will share a book and a snack with their reading partners across the grades.
St. Patrick’s School will participate in Touring Tuesday, Jan. 29, 9-11a.m. Students in grade 1-8 will participate in a trivia contest, and pre-K and Kindergarten students will enjoy a winter movie and snack treat.
An international lunch for all students will be served Wednesday, Jan. 30.
On Thursday, Jan. 31, students will make their own sundaes.
St. Patrick’s, Bedford, will conclude Catholic Schools Week Friday, Feb. 1, with 9 a.m. Mass, followed by the fourth annual Pig Race Contest for all students. Each class and the faculty will personalize and cheer their motorized pig. The winning class will receive a dress down day and Dunkin Donuts treat.

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School in Shrub Oak will kick off Catholic Schools Week Monday, Jan. 28, at Pastries with Parents.
On Tuesday, Jan. 29, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton will participate in Touring Tuesday, 9-11 a.m., or by appointment.
Heads will be topped with creative and crazy hats Wednesday, Jan. 30.
On Thursday, Jan. 31, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton will hold a sports dress down day and a Students vs. Staff basketball game.
At 9 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 1, the school community will gather for a Mass to conclude Catholic Schools Week.

At St. Patrick School in Yorktown Heights, Catholic Schools Week will begin with students speaking at local Masses and an open house for new families, 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27.
A morning assembly will take place Monday, Jan. 28. Open house for prospective families will be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 28, and Touring Tuesday, Jan. 29.
On Wednesday, Jan. 30, St. Patrick's will host a blood drive to benefit the American Red Cross, 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
St. Patrick’s will conclude Catholic School Week with First Friday Mass at 9 a.m., followed by a ribbon cutting for the new Gawlicki Media Center Friday, Feb.1.


Ulster County
Catholic Schools Week will be celebrated at both locations of Kingston Catholic School. The annual science fair will take place Sunday, Jan. 27.
A morning kick off for the Feeding Our Neighbors campaign, and Chipotle Dinner Fund-raiser benefiting Kingston Catholic School are set Monday, Jan. 28.
A day of gratitude is planned for Tuesday, Jan. 29, honoring first-responders from the Kingston Police Department, the Kingston Fire Department, the Sheriff's Office, the New York State Police and the Kingston Mayor's Office.
Kingston Catholic School will participate in Touring Tuesday, Jan. 29, 9-11 a.m., or by appointment.
On Wednesday, Jan. 30, the Elementary School will celebrate with an ice cream social and the Middle School will have an assembly. The schedule will be flipped on Thursday, Jan. 31.
We will end Catholic Schools Week with First Friday Mass. The middle school will join the elementary school for the day at the Elementary Campus. Spring Fling Carnival, sponsored by the Eighth Grade, will be held with Buddy classes attending together.

Sullivan County

St. Peter's Regional School in Liberty will celebrate Catholic Schools Week with activities geared toward younger students. We will emphasize the basics of Catholicism and will conduct classroom activities, along with church visits and tours. Touring Tuesday, Jan. 29, will take place 9-11 a.m., or by appointment.

Rockland County

St. Paul School, Valley Cottage:
Sunday, Jan. 27, Mass at St. Paul School followed by a breakfast and open house. Cans of soup will be collected all week and donate to the St. Paul School Pantry.

St. Anthony School, Nanuet:

Wednesday, Jan. 30, will be a “Blast Into the Past,” with each class exploring a decade (1900-2000).
A science fair will be held Thursday, Jan. 31.
A volleyball game will be played on Friday, Feb. 1, with Buddy classes wearing the same color.

Sacred Heart School, Suffern:
Monday, Jan. 28: Students will wear different colors depending upon their class. Also, lower grades will participate in Religion BINGO and upper grades in Religion Jeopardy. There also will be open house.
Tuesday, Jan. 29: Students will participate in a pep rally in the afternoon and then watch the Faculty and Student volleyball game. Touring Tuesday open house is 9-11 a.m.
Wednesday, Jan. 30: Breakfast with a loved one will be 8:30-10 a.m. Book Fair is open for parents.
Thursday: Students in grades K-8 will go to the local movie theater, funded by the Home School Association

St. Margaret School, Pearl River

Saturday, Feb. 2: Celebrating Families. Parents, guardians and other family members play a vital role in Catholic education. Not only do they volunteer at the school, they instill values and expectations for academic excellence in their children at home.

Our Lady of Victory School, Mount Vernon
Monday, Jan. 28. A Day of Giving-International Day. All classes-Book Fair. Grades 4 to 8 will have PWC visit and the students will learn about financial responsibilities. All classes should bring food for the Feeding Our Neighbors campaign. All students may wear clothing from their native culture.

St. Eugene’s will begin Catholic Schools Week with a thank you reception for parishioners after the 10 a.m. Mass Sunday, Jan. 27.
Monday, Jan. 28. The eighth-grade pinning ceremony will follow the 9 a.m. Mass. The ceremony celebrates their leadership in the school and marks the beginning of their final semester before high school. In the afternoon, all classrooms will work on a door-decorating contest to celebrate our faith.
Tuesday, Jan. 29. There will be open house, and students will dress in their favorite storybook characters. The younger grades will go on a treasure hunt, and the upper grades will play a Jeopardy game.
Wednesday, Jan. 30. Cultural awareness day, with students presenting projects on their culture and heritage. In the evening, all families will celebrate International Night by bringing dishes featuring their native cuisine. Students will express their culture through dress and performances.
Thursday, Jan. 31. Color day, in which students will dress in the school colors of blue and gold. It will also be sports day. Different grades will compete in races, obstacle courses and basketball games, culminating in an eighth grade vs. teachers basketball game.
Friday, Feb. 1. First Friday Mass will be offered. It will also be special visitors day for grandparents, godparents, aunts and uncles to visit.

St. John the Baptist School, Yonkers
Students will enjoy entertainment assemblies featuring the school’s 4th and 5th grade theater arts class. A Mass followed by a potluck supper will be offered Saturday, Jan. 26.

SS. John and Paul School, Larchmont
Lunches and dinners for Hope Community Services in New Rochelle. Students make bag lunches given to the poor as they leave Hope Kitchen after dinner. Each quarter, families make an entree, salad or dessert for a dinner Hope serves.
Breakfast Run (Midnight Run). Eighth-graders meet at 7 a.m. on a Sunday at the parish to make a hot breakfast. The hot food is packed, along with other food and toiletries, and brought to the West Side of Manhattan and served to our guests. School families donate the food.
Brown Bag Lunch program. Students make more than 250 lunches for the benefit of the Trinity/St. Paul Brown Bag Lunch program.
Good Counsel/Daystar Home. We support this home for single moms with food and clothing.
The Jeanne Jugan Home (Little Sister of the Poor). We support them with food each week.
POTS (Part of the Solution). We support POTS with donations of food secured from local merchants such as Stop and Shop.

Academy of St. Dorothy
A young alumni panel will speak about their careers and the role the Academy of St. Dorothy played in their lives. “Souper Bowl,” a food drive collecting cans of soup or boxes of cereal. Donors can wear their favorite team shirt. An open house for our parents will be held. The Sisters of St. Dorothy will be acknowledged for the faith foundation they have provided through the years. The week will close with an afternoon of bowling and pizza while wearing student-designed Catholic School Week T-shirts.

Blessed Sacrament School
Student and faculty model Catholic identity every day by their interactions and dealings with one another. During Catholic Schools Week, we will again collect supplies and make coloring book packages to be donated to the Pediatric Unit at Staten Island Hospital and the Seton Foundation.

Holy Rosary School
Catholic Schools' Week will kick off at Holy Rosary School Sunday, Jan. 27, with a Mass in the parish church at 2 p.m. The week will continue with fun, educational activities including a Wax Museum, Alumni Appreciation Day, Career Day, Radio BINGO, Letters to Our Troops and a prom with our neighbors at the Friendship Club. The week will end with a Family Bowling Night event at Rab's Country Lanes.

Our Lady of Good Counsel School
The students at Our Lady of Good Counsel School participate in a "Souper" Bowl when they bring cans of soup for our food pantry and wear their favorite football jersey. We have a school pride day when students wear the most OLGC apparel they can. We raise "Pennies for Patients" all week, which assists children with childhood cancers/leukemia. The week culminates with an open house Thursday, Jan. 31, where we set up an "Expedition of Learning" and a Mass, led by the fifth grade, Friday, Feb. 1.

Our Lady Help of Christians School
Our Lady Help of Christians will host several events, including a grades K-8 Talent Show, Principal for the Day, Fitness/Wellness Day with the New York Public Library, School Spirit Day and a Scholastic Book Fair.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Benedicta School
Catholic School Week activities include a day of service and giving visiting Silver Lake Nursing Home, School Spirit Day, Favorite Book Character Day, Crazy Hat and Sock Day, and Teacher Appreciation Day.

Our Lady Star of the Sea School
OLSS will hold its first Legacy Day. Parents who are OLSS alumni and have enrolled their children have been invited to attend a special Mass and brunch. More than 200 people are expected. Other activities include Catholic School Scavenger Hunt, Catholic School BINGO, book drive and student appreciation day. The week will conclude with a schoolwide Mass prepared by the National Junior Honor Society and Teacher Appreciation Day.
Our Lady Queen of Peace students will participate in the “Feel Good Random Acts of Kindness Campaign.” Each grade will collect items for community organizations.

Notre Dame Academy
Students and parents will join the celebration with a special Catholic Schools Week prayer service. Our patron saint, St. Marguerite Bourgeoys, will be among the subjects of special lessons and activities. Activities will include a schoolwide BINGO game and a free throw competition between the teachers and the eighth-graders. To show charity toward others, students will deliver handmade cards to the elderly, raise environmental awareness, collect loose change to help fight hunger, and donate food and warm clothing to the parish resource center.

Sacred Heart School
Catholic Schools Week at Sacred Heart School begins with a prayer service of gratitude. The week’s highlights include open house, Grandparents Day, Color Wars, Buddy Day and an annual danceathon to benefit cystic fibrosis research.

St. Adalbert School
Activities will include Operation Toasty Tootsies, an annual sock collection for homeless veterans. Community helpers will be honored with a bagel breakfast to celebrate all they do to make the community a better and safer place to live.

St. Ann School
Activities will include Career Day, Comfy Cozy Day and Color Wars. The week culminates with Parent Appreciation Day Friday, Feb. 1. Parents will be able to observe their children in class and attend an assembly highlighting the "saints" in our school and community.

Make Peace—Older and younger students will work together making Valentine’s cards for residents at Providence Rest and Jeanne Jugan Residence, and to add to our Midnight Run bags for Salesian High School.
