New York Catholic Youth Day, an annual celebration for high school students in the archdiocese, will take place Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.
Doors will open at 8 a.m., and the day will end at 6 p.m. Cardinal Dolan will celebrate the closing Mass.
The event, hosted by the archdiocese’s Office of Youth Ministry, has a theme of “Be Bold” inspired by the Archangel Gabriel’s message to Mary: “Do not be afraid.”
Keynote speakers are Jackie Francois Angel, a Catholic musician and speaker, and Dr. Ansel Augustine from the Archdiocese of New Orleans.
Workshop presenters include Vanessa Zuleta, who is studying for her master’s degree in theology at Boston College and earlier served at Catholic Youth & Family Ministries in Garrison; Father Pierre Toussaint, C.F.R., who was ordained to the priesthood in May for the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal; and Sister Virginia Joy, S.V., director of the archdiocese’s Respect Life Office. ALOB Band will provide music.
The youths attending will help to pack 50,000 meals for families in need in Burkina Faso in Africa in collaboration with Catholic Relief Services’ Helping Hands program.
