Jeff Kantor, Macy’s chief merchandising officer, along with Macy’s colleagues, visited Encore Senior Center at St. Malachy’s parish in Manhattan July 26. There they presented St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters with a $420,000 check from funds raised through Macy’s Bag Hunger campaign.

Joseph Sano, co-founder and executive director of St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters was present, as was Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer.

Before the check presentation to St. Francis to support its mission of providing funding to New York City organizations such as Encore, Macy’s leadership team prepared and served lunch to the senior citizens.

Encore Senior Center, one of St. Francis’ community partners, hosts more than 200 seniors each day for programs and services.

The donation will help St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters purchase 6,000 turkeys, 10,000 diapers, 15,000 cases of canned goods, and clothing for those in need.

Bag Hunger gives Macy’s customers and colleagues an opportunity to contribute food, money and time to local agencies. That includes emergency food-assistance programs and summer meals for children.
