Critical of Remarks

Posted

Your report on the call of 600 Catholic leaders with President Trump mischaracterizes the objections of many Catholics like me to Cardinal Dolan’s participation (CNY, May 7). I take no issue with the cardinal’s participation. I take issue with his remarks to the president, perhaps appropriate in personal conversation but not in a public Catholic lobbying forum.

In addition, your reporting clearly and significantly repeats several of the president’s statements by which he represents himself as a defender of the Faith. I do not subscribe to his personal opinions. Neither do I subscribe to and support this newspaper to serve as a voice for unremarked political campaign opinions by the president. Haven’t we had enough with political powers as defenders of the Faith?
